USI Homecoming Candidates

Ten University of Southern Indiana students have been selected to serve as the 2004 Homecoming candidates. Homecoming 2004 “Passport Around the World” includes a week of events beginning on February 2 and ending with the presentation of the Homecoming court and announcement of king and queen at half time of the men’s basketball game on February 7. The court will include four king candidates and six queen candidates.

A profile of each candidate follows.

Kendall Martin is the son of Carol Martin of Merrillville, Indiana. He is a graduate of Merrillville High School and an advertising major. Martin is currently president of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and has participated in Eagle Leaders, P.A.L.S., First Year Initiatives, and the Black Student Union.

Nicholas Merkley is the son of John and Donna Merkley of Newburgh, Indiana. He is a graduate of Castle High School and a chemistry/business double major. Merkley is a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, current president of the American Chemical Society, an Academic Honors scholarship recipient and a past member of the German Club.

Troy Nethery is the son of Terry and Lorena Nethery of Arcadia, Indiana. He is a graduate of Hamilton Southeastern High School and is an elementary education major. Nethery is president of the Student Government Association, a member of Activities Programming Board, Parking and Transportation Committee, Student Affairs Committee, Administrative Appeals Committee, and a past member of the Student Ambassadors Association, Residence Hall Council, and AMIGOS. He has also received one of the Vice President of Student Affairs Top Ten Student Leaders Award and the Student Government Association Representative of the Year Award.

Michael Siwy is the son of Ronald and Bari Siwy of Hobart, Indiana. He is a graduate of Andrean High School and is a physical education major with a minor in health and safety. Siwy is a member of the Student Education Association, president of the Exercise Science and Physical Education Club, and a member of the Council of Future Professionals.

Amanda Diehl is the daughter of James Jr. and Penny Diehl of Merrillville, Indiana. She is a graduate of Merrillville High School and a business administration major with a focus in management. Diehl is a member of the Honors Program, attorney general of the Student Government Association, vice president of Admission Events for the Student Ambassador Association, Alpha Kappa Psi, and a past member of the Student Development Advisory Board, the Student Travel Grant Allocations Committee, and Freshman Elections Committee. She has received the Student Government Association Member of the Year Award, Student Ambassador Member of the Month, Vice President for Student Affairs Top Ten Student Leaders Award, and is regularly on the Dean’s List.

Nicole Juliano is the daughter of Joy Juliano of Evansville, Indiana, and Steven Juliano of Pelham, New York. She is a graduate of Reitz High School and an advertising major with a minor in marketing. Juliano has been sisterhood chair, vice president of public relations and recruitment, and the captain of the bowling team for her sorority, Alpha Sigma Alpha.

Andrea Miller is the daughter of Garry and Cathy Miller of Laconia, Indiana. She is a graduate of South Central High School and is an accounting and professional services major. Miller is a Presidential Scholar, a member of the Honors Program, academics and past secretary of Delta Zeta sorority, Student Ambassadors, Accounting and Professional Services Club, past Membership Chair of Student Ambassadors, past AVP of External Relations for Student Government Association, Eagle Leaders, and the Eagle Athletic Support Committee. She has received the English Portfolio Award, All Greek New Member, Delta Zeta Best New Member, and Delta Zeta Highest GPA award, and is regularly on the Dean’s List.

Casey Schneider is the daughter of Monty and Linda Schneider of New Salisbury, Indiana. She is a graduate of North Harrison High School and a physical education/English major. Schneider a cross country All-Conference, All-Regional, NCAA qualifier, outdoor track conference champion, NCAA qualifier, school record holder, Academic All-Conference, indoor track Academic All-Conference, and vice president of the Exercise and Physical Education Club.

Danielle Small is the daughter of Eric Small of Crawfordsville, Indiana. She is a graduate of Crawfordsville High School and a radiology major. Small on the Dean’s List and held offices as house manager, assistant social chair, membership vice president, and new member educator in Gamma Phi Beta sorority.

Kari Thompson is the daughter of Mark and Carol Thompson of Green Bay Wisconsin. She is a graduate of Green Bay Preble High School and a biology major. Thompson has held offices such as historian, new member educator, house manager, and assistant social chair for Gamma Phi Beta sorority, vice president of the National Panhellenic Council, and a member of Sigma Zeta Math and Science Honor Society.
