International Week February 16-20

University of Southern Indiana will celebrate International Week with a variety of activities and special events February 16-20. The International Food Expo, a highlight of the festivities, will be presented from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. February 20 in the University Center’s Carter Hall. Featuring entertainment and exhibits in addition to numerous culinary delicacies, the expo showcases the diverse cultures represented by international students at USI. A few items on this year’s menu include shrimp shau mai from China, curry rice from Japan, bangers and mash from England, and chocolate mousse from France. Other countries represented at the buffet-style meal will include Greece, Moldova, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Venezuela, Hungary, Columbia, Korea, Russia, India, Peru, Albania, Iran, Zambia, and the United States. Pizza also will be available for less adventurous appetites. In addition to Latin dancing performed by students from Peru and Venezuela, the entertainment program will include a kimono demonstration with audience participation; a vocal performance by a student from Taiwan; a Japanese tea ceremony; Irish instrumental and vocal music by Daniel Craig, USI assistant professor of music; and clogging by an American student. Advance tickets will be available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. February 16-17 in the University Center. Adult admission is $5 in advance or $7 at the door. Admission for children ages 7-12 is $3. Learn about black history with the Global Community and Black Student Union, celebrate, play games, and win prizes. Free and open to the public. · February 18 – International Career Day, 3 p.m., University Center, Carter Hall. Featuring experts in international diplomacy, business, education, and the Peace Corps, and information about internships, volunteering, and working abroad. Keynote speaker: Ambassador Ronald Godard. Free and open to the public. · February 20 – International Food Expo, 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., University Center, Carter Hall. International food and entertainment. Public invited. · Ongoing – Where in the World? Trivia Contest, open to the University community, February 16-19, University Center, first floor. Identify photos of exotic locations with a few clues, $50 gift certificate awarded to the winner each day. · Ongoing – Around the World International Photo Contest, February 16-20. Winning entries will be on display in Carter Hall during the International Week Kick-off Reception and International Food Expo, and in the University Center throughout International Week. |
