Free tax help

University of Southern Indiana accounting students will prepare basic income tax returns free of charge as part of the Internal Revenue Service’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program. Taxpayers of low to moderate income, individuals with disabilities, and senior citizens are eligible to receive the free assistance. Roughly 30 student volunteers are undergoing the VITA training and will be ready to begin providing services February 14. The free tax preparation will be offered from noon to 3 p.m. Saturdays on the University of Southern Indiana campus. Tax assistance will be available February 14, 21, 28; March 20, 27; and April 3 and 10. Electronic filing also will be available. The USI School of Business will begin accepting appointments for tax preparation assistance Monday, February 9. To make an appointment or request additional information, call 812/464-1718. |
