IU Soul Revue March 2 at USI
|
University of Southern Indiana’s celebration of Black History Month will sizzle March 2, when the IU Soul Revue performs at 7 p.m. in the University Center’s Carter Hall. Featuring a full ensemble, male and female lines, horns, and a rhythm section, the group’s extraordinary energy and impeccable musicianship have earned it a reputation as one of the finest collegiate popular music ensembles in America. Under the leadership of director Tyron Cooper, the IU Soul Revue performs original compositions as well as timeless R&B, soul, funk, and contemporary urban black popular music. Stevie Wonder; Earth, Wind, and Fire; Patti Labelle; Kelly Price; D’Angelo; Mary J. Blige; and Eric Benet are a few of the artists covered in the group’s repertoire. The IU Soul Revue is part of the African American Arts Institute at Indiana University, which also includes the African American Dance Company and the African American Choral Ensemble. The University of Southern Indiana Black Student Union and Multicultural Center are sponsoring the revue’s free performance in Evansville, and the public is invited to attend.
