Scripps Howard News Service editor at High School Media Day

Peter Copeland, editor and general manager of Scripps Howard News Service, will address local and area high school journalism students at University of Southern Indiana’s High School Media Day at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, March 9 in Mitchell Auditorium of the Health Professions Center. His lecture topic will be “Rising to the Top.” Copeland started in journalism as a night police reporter in Chicago. He worked for a newspaper in Texas before spending five years as the Scripps Howard Latin America correspondent based in Mexico City. He also covered the Pentagon for five years, reporting on U.S. military operations in Panama, the Persian Gulf, and Somalia. He has covered coups, earthquakes, revolutions, and civil wars on five continents. He has been an editor in Washington since 1996, and the bureau chief since 1999. He is a graduate of Lawrence University. He lives in Washington with his wife and two children. The Scripps Howard News Services supplies more than 100 stories and photos daily for more than 400 newspapers around the world. The Scripps Howard office also publishes magazines for the television networks, Home and Garden Television (HGTV) and Food Network. High School Media Day is an annual event sponsored by the USI Scripps Howard Center for Media Studies and the Evansville Courier and Press. |
