Indiana resident named Dain Garrett Merit Award recipient
|
University of Southern Indiana junior Nathan Stewart of Newburgh is this year’s recipient of the Dain Garrett Merit Award, a scholarship that recognizes a current University of Southern Indiana liberal arts student who excels academically. Stewart is majoring in history. He is a graduate of Pike Central High School. The Dain Garrett Merit Award was established by USI honor graduate Dain Garrett of Carmi, Illinois, who died in October 2003. The merit award recognizes a student who is a scholar and has overcome a hardship. Money for the scholarship comes from awards Garrett received for his academic work and from graduation gifts, plus donations from individuals who supported Garrett’s efforts. Contributions to the Dain Garrett Merit Award can be made to the USI Foundation. Garrett is being awarded a master’s degree posthumously from California State University, where he completed the coursework for the degree with a 4.0 average. |
