Earth Day Celebration

APRIL 20 BOYS & GIRLS CLUB, 716 W. Illinois, 4:30 p.m. DEMONSTRATIONS AND HANDS-ON ACTIVITIES APRIL 21 EARTH DAY COMPETITION – USI COMPETITION – 10-11 a.m., University Conference Center Three-member teams from area high schools will compete for awards by answering questions related to their studies in first-year chemistry. Their peers will be in the audience to encourage them (no answers). CHEMICAL DEMONSTRATIONS 11-12 a.m. The Indiana/Kentucky Border Section of the American Chemical Society (ACS) will observe Chemists Celebrate Earth Day (CCED) during the week of April 19-23. The 2004 theme for CCED is “What do you know about H2O?” This annual celebration is an opportunity for children of all ages to have fun learning about the chemistry of water. Chemists Celebrate Earth Day is an outreach program of the American Chemical Society developed to enhance the public’s awareness of the contributions of chemistry to our everyday lives and the nation’s economy. ACS members, industry, educators, and chemistry enthusiasts celebrate it nationwide. The American Chemical Society is the world’s largest professional scientific society with a membership of more than 159,000 chemists and chemical engineers. The Society publishes scientific journals and databases, convenes major research conferences, and provides educational, science policy and career programs in chemistry.
