Concrete canoe competition results
|
Two University of Southern Indiana teams of engineering students placed second this weekend in concrete canoe-racing competition as part of the American Society of Civil Engineers Regional Concrete Canoe competition for colleges hosted by the Milwaukee School of Engineering. The USI team in the co-ed sprint race was made up of Eric Effinger, Brent Johnson, Megan Mahrenholz, and Amanda Adams. They were six seconds behind the winning canoe from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The USI team also took second in the women’s endurance competition. Amanda Adams and Lisa Loftus rowed for USI. The canoe races test the canoes as well as the physical stamina of the students. The actual racing is 30 percent of the competition. Other factors include the design paper and the craft’s final appearance and durability. USI placed fourth in the total competition. Schools that placed above USI were University of Wisconsin-Madison, the host school MSOE, and University of Evansville. USI placed above University of Notre Dame, Purdue University, Marquette University, Bradley, and other schools that offer engineering programs. |
