Public art projects to be presented
|
University of Southern Indiana art students and education students are joining students from Stanley Hall Enrichment Center from 8 to 9 a.m. on Thursday, May 6 at Stanley Hall Enrichment Center, 800 South Evans Avenue, to present models they have created for a public art project in Evansville. The presentations will take place in the gymnasium. USI students and Stanley Hall students have been working with Dr. Michael Slavkin, director of service learning at Stanley Hall and a USI assistant professor of education, and Dr. Hilary Braysmith, USI associate professor of art history, to research, design, and create bus shelters that reflect the transportation history of Evansville. The models will depict P-47 fighters, the LST (landing ship tank), and steamboats. Plans are to apply for an Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) grant to finance construction. The project has been an opportunity for faculty to work in an interdisciplinary and intergenerational fashion. |
