Computer classes for beginners

Classes for beginners with no experience with personal computers are being offered as noncredit summer courses through Continuing Education at the University of Southern Indiana starting Tuesday, May 25. The courses will begin with vocabulary, keyboard skills, mouse mastery, then move on through basic Windows and Internet skills. In a two-hour course called My First Computer Class, students will learn basic vocabulary and computer components, parts of the computer, and keyboard and mouse skills. The course is free and meets from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on May 25. Other courses in the series are Computers for the Home, 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 8, fee $25; Windows the Basics, 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on two Tuesdays, June 22 and June 29, fee $40; and Internet for Fun and Learning, 5 to 6:30 p.m., two Tuesdays, July 13 and July 20, fee, $30. An $80 fee is charged to students who want to take all four courses. Instructors for the courses are Linda Cleek, USI director of Continuing Education; Nancy Dauby, coordinator of Computer Technology at St. Benedict Cathedral School, and Rebecca Deig, senior program assistant at USI.
