Advertising student one of 10 Stickell interns
|
USI junior Kelli M. Frosch is one of 10 students from across the United States selected as a 2004 Stickell Memorial student intern. The 10-week internship, which began in May, is sponsored by the American Advertising Federation (AAF), and it is intended to raise the awareness and understanding of advertising processes and business ethics among future advertising professionals. The internship was established in 1989 in honor of Vance L. Stickell (1925-1987), former executive vice president for the Los Angeles Times who was a highly respected advertising practitioner. Kelli was nominated for the internship by Robert Jeffers, instructor in advertising, as the most outstanding student member of the USI AAF college chapter. Selection was based on advertising industry aptitude, GPA, leadership, and an essay. Kelli was one of 43 students from across the country nominated. She was matched with Valassis, a company, located near Detroit, Michigan, that has been listed as one of Fortune magazine’s “Best Companies to Work for in America.” Services include newspaper advertising and inserts, direct mail, 1 to 1 marketing programs, coupon clearing and consulting, and analytic services. Kelli learned of receiving the internship during a class. Mr. Jeffers, known for his wit and exuberance, asked her in class one day, “Miss Frosch, is anything exciting going on in your life?” Her immediate thought was how does he know I signed a lease on a house? But then Mr. Jeffers announced to Kelli and the entire class that she was selected for the Stickell internship. She said she was not expecting it. Between her freshman and sophomore year, she served as an intern with Emmis Communication in Indianapolis, working on radio promotions. Kelli is from Indianapolis where she graduated from Franklin Central High School. She is the daughter of Steve and Mindy Frosch. At USI Kelli holds a 4.0 grade point average. She is majoring in advertising and completing a minor in marketing. She plans to graduate in May 2005. In addition to her work with the USI AAF chapter, she is a member of the USI Ad Club, building coordinator for Habitat, a member of the Springfest committee, and a member of Ad Club of Evansville. She enrolled at USI because she liked the size of the university and she liked the location, close to home but far enough away to feel like she is on her own. She said the choice has been a perfect fit for her, with emphasis on perfect. Kelli brings attention to the advertising program at USI by earning the internship. Faculty, the department chair, and other administrators are pleased to see such student success. Dr. Rob Parrent, vice president for Student Affairs, said, “This is truly an outstanding accomplishment which recognizes Kelli as THE most outstanding member of USI’s student chapter of AAF and among the 10 best in the country. Best wishes for a wonderful experience.” The USI AAF chapter is one of 210 chapters in the United States and abroad. More than 6,800 undergraduates and 350 faculty advisers are involved with AAF. |
