Six B/MD scholarships awarded at University of Southern Indiana

Six Indiana students have been selected to receive Baccalaureate/Doctor of Medicine (B/MD) scholarships at the University of Southern Indiana (USI). The B/MD scholarship program offers admission to USI and a provisional seat in the Indiana University School of Medicine, a full tuition waiver for the undergraduate program, and special opportunities to learn more about medicine as a career, including opportunities to conduct undergraduate research. It is sponsored jointly by USI and the Evansville Center for Medical Education, Indiana University School of Medicine. The students come from Evansville, Greenwood, Indiana in Johnson County, Schererville, Indiana in Lake County, and Newburgh. Evansville students are Emily Kraft and Todd Wannemuehler. Kraft is a Signature School graduate. She participated in science fairs, student government, academic super bowl, regional science bowl, and state math competition. She was active with yearbook, chorus, instrumental winds ensemble, drama, 4-H club, and Big Star/Little Star. She volunteered at Deaconess Hospital, and she served as a camp counselor, science fair mentor, and leader for ministry retreats, bible study, and youth group. She is the daughter of Ken and Mary Ann Kraft of Evansville. Wannemuehler, a graduate of Mater Dei High School, was active in student council, prom planning committee, speech, peer mediation, and tennis. He is a member of the National Honor Society, history academic super bowl, and Evansville Teen Advisory Council. He received the Outstanding Achievement in Mathematics award and the Evansville Catholic Interparochial High School President’s Award. He is the son of Dennis and Donna Hodges and Gene and Evelyn Wannemuehler. The B/MD scholars’ list includes twin brothers Rajeev Singh and Sanjeev Singh, graduates of Center Grove High School in Indianapolis, Indiana. Rajeev participated in National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, Science Olympiad, Key Club, and Quiz Bowl. Sanjeev was active in Quiz Bowl, the academic super bowl team, JETS science and math competition, Brain Game team, student government, National Honor Society, and Spanish National Honor Society. The brothers volunteered at Community Hospitals of Indianapolis. They are the sons of Deovrat and Vidya Singh of Greenwood, Indiana. Other scholars are Sheiphali Gandhi of Lake County and Anupama Chundury of Newburgh. Gandhi is a graduate of Munster High School. She participated in the academic team, Project X, S.A.D.D., Spanish Club, speech and debate team, National Honor Society, A Honor Roll, National Forensic, band, and tennis. She is the daughter of Arvind and Jayshree Ghandi of Schererville, Indiana. Chundury is a graduate of Indiana Academy for Science, Mathematics, and Humanities in Muncie, Indiana. She competed in piano and flute competitions, was named Student of the Month, shadowed doctors, and was a tutor and a library volunteer. She participated in soccer, track, Latin club, French club, Key club, science club, film club, Indian culture club, National Honor Society, March of Dimes, and Race for the Cure. She is the daughter of Deenadayalu and Babykumari Chundury of Newburgh, Indiana. To be eligible for the B/MD scholarship, students must be Indiana residents with a high school grade point average of at least 3.5 and a minimum SAT score of 1200. The average SAT score of this year’s recipients is 1455. |
