September time to celebrate diversity

Concerts, lectures, performances, exhibits, and many other activities fill University of Southern Indiana’s THREADS Diversity Celebration Month. Events begin Saturday, August 28, and will continue through September. “The purpose of THREADS is to encourage students, faculty, and staff to participate in the cultural opportunities we have available at the University so they can get involved with people on campus and gain a better understanding of people who are different from them,” said Carrie Wilkerson, chair of the THREADS Committee and program coordinator in the USI Multicultural Center. The THREADS Diversity Celebration Month calendar follows. Events are free and open to the public, unless otherwise noted. August 28 – Bill Miller in Concert, 6 to 8 p.m., Angel Mounds State Historic Site, 8215 Pollack Ave.: performance by a Native American singer, musician, and artist. Admission: $10 adults, $8 seniors, $5 youth ages 10-18. Bring lawnchairs. Proceeds benefit Angel Mounds. August 30 - Alpha Phi Alpha Yard Show, 9:06 p.m., USI, McWest, recreation room: A step performance featuring the men of Alpha Phi Alpha. Sponsor: Alpha Phi Alpha.
