First USI Distinguished Accountant Award to be presented
|
Presentation of the first USI Distinguished Accountant Award will be a highlight of the Accounting Circle Celebration at 6 p.m. September 15 in Carter Hall at the University of Southern Indiana. The new award honors a senior member of the accounting profession for professional achievement, service to the region and/or USI, and service to the accounting profession. The award was established by the USI accounting programs and the Accounting Circle, an organization of senior executives in public and corporate accounting in the southwestern Indiana region. Members serve as an advisory board to accounting programs in USI’s School of Business. The Accounting Circle Celebration also will include an Indianapolis-based speaker on current issues in accounting and opportunities for accounting students, faculty, and professionals to get to know each other. Dave Shatkowski, vice president of communications for the Indiana CPA Society (INCPAS), will speak on topics of recent interest in the accounting profession and will bring the audience up to date on activities of INCPAS and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. INCPAS is headquartered in Indianapolis. USI students majoring in accounting, faculty members, and accounting professionals will have opportunities to interact during a pizza dinner and a Jeopardy-style accounting game. Top student performers in the game will receive an invitation for a one-on-one lunch with a member of the Accounting Circle. Dr. Brian L. McGuire, chair of the Department of Accounting and Business Law, said the luncheons last year provided mentoring opportunities for students and gave employers an opportunity to get to know individuals who may be potential employees in the years to come. USI’s School of Business offers undergraduate and graduate programs in accounting. The programs were awarded separate accreditation by AACSB International – The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business in 2003. The USI School of Business received initial accreditation for all of its business programs in 1997. |
