Voter registration blitz gains 854 new voters
|
The three-day Get Your Vote On voter registration blitz at the University of Southern Indiana garnered 854 new voters, surpassing the goal of 500 registrations set by the organizers. The campaign was held September 21 to September 23. Amy Stockholm, a USI senior and a blitz organizer, said “We had overwhelming response to the blitz. We made voter registration accessible to the students and they responded. A good percentage of the registrants are voting for the first time. It means more because it is a presidential election.” She added a thank you to the students, student organizations, and volunteers who worked at the registration tables during the campaign. Stockholm said USI will be starting a second phase of the campaign, to get the students to vote. She said student organizations will sponsor candidates who will meet and talk with students. She wants students to know the issues. Information about polling places also will be made available before November 2. Deadline for registering to vote in Indiana is October 4. |
