Early childhood education focus of conference at USI

University of Southern Indiana will host the 14th annual Early Childhood Education Conference, designed for people who work with children through age 8, October 2 in the Education Center. This year’s conference will feature keynote speaker Barbara Bowman, one of the four founders of the Erikson Institute. Bowman served as the institute’s president from 1994 to 2001 and is a leading authority on early education. She is a nationally recognized expert on the importance of improving training for professionals who work with children and their families and has more than 30 years experience in the field of child development. Bowman holds an M.A. in education from University of Chicago and is a graduate of Sarah Lawrence College. The conference also will include a variety of workshops covering diverse topics such as Yoga for Kids, Best Books for Young Children, Setting Up a Toddler Environment on a Budget, Enhancing Early Literacy Development by Reading Aloud, Young Children and Diversity, Creative Dramatics, Project Braintree, and more. On-site registration, $30, will be available from 7:45 to 9 a.m. in the Education Center. The conference will conclude at 2:30 p.m., and on-site registration does not include lunch. The University of Southern Indiana Department of Teacher Education, Evansville Area Early Childhood Association, and Community Action Program of Evansville are sponsoring the event. |
