Brian McGuire named chair

Dr. Brian McGuire, associate professor of accounting at the University of Southern Indiana, has been named chair of the Department of Accounting and Business Law in the School of Business. McGuire is a certified public accountant (CPA), certified management accountant (CMA), and a certified business manager (CBM). In addition, he recently was recognized by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) as a certified information technology professional (CITP), a designation that identifies CPAs who are technology professionals with the ability to bridge the gaps between business and technology. McGuire’s research interests are in the areas of cost accounting, health care, and accounting information systems. He has professional experience in both public and corporate accounting. He has served as an administrator of a medical center, director of corporate operations for a hospital holding company, and as a consultant in the health-care field. McGuire is active at the national level in the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA), serving as a member of the group’s executive committee and board of directors and as chair of the committee on academic relations. Locally, he serves on the board of directors of the Evansville Chapter of IMA and the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra. He is a faculty advisor to the USI chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, the national scholastic and professional society for financial Information students and professionals. USI offers undergraduate and graduate programs in accounting. USI’s accounting programs were awarded separate accreditation by AACSB International – The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business in 2003. The USI School of Business received initial accreditation for all of its business programs in 1997. McGuire earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the University of South Alabama and a doctorate at the University of Central Florida. He joined USI in 1995. |
