USI lecture exploring gender roles in ancient art

An associate professor in the Department of History of Art at Ohio State University will examine gender roles and the relationships portrayed in ancient Greek art in a program October 28, 2004 at University of Southern Indiana. Dr. Timothy McNiven will present “Significant Others in Greek Art” at 7:30 p.m. in Kleymeyer Hall in the Liberal Arts Center. McNiven’s areas of expertise include gender issues in Greek art, Greek and Roman art, and the history of ceramics. His research focuses on the images on ancient Greek pottery, especially the use and meaning of gestures. He won the 1996 Ohio State Alumni Award for Distinguished Teaching. McNiven also is a consultant to the Department of Ancient Art at the Toledo Museum and is a member of the governing boards of the Midwest Art History Society. The USI Society of Arts & Humanities is sponsoring the lecture that is free and open to the public. The program is part of THREADS Heritage Month. |
