A student forum with Indiana House District 76 candidates

A student forum with Indiana House District 76 candidates, incumbent Democrat Trent Van Haaften and Republican challenger Jim Tomes, will begin at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, October 21, 2004 in the University Conference Center on the University of Southern Indiana campus. Van Haaften filled Jonathan Weinzapfel’s term after Weinzapfel’s win in Evansville’s mayoral election. He is an attorney with Bamberger, Foreman, Oswald, and Hahn and served as Posey County’s prosecuting attorney from 1995 to 2003. He holds a J.D. from Drake University Law School and a B.A. from Lake Forest College. Van Haaften resides in Mount Vernon. Tomes, a Vietnam veteran, has been a Teamster for more than 30 years and is employed as a driver for Yellow Transportation. He is a member of Wadesville VFW Post 6576, Teamster Local 215, NRA, GOA, Knights of St. John, and Second Amendment Patriots. He holds an associate degree from Ivy Tech State College and resides near Blairsville. Brad Byrd, WEHT-25 lead news anchor, will moderate the forum, which is sponsored by the USI Student Government Association, College Democrats, and College Republicans in conjunction with the University’s voter registration/voting campaign. The event is free and open to the public. |
