‘Nightmare’ coming to USI

Looking to scare up some fun this Halloween? “Nightmare on University Boulevard” will arrive at University of Southern Indiana October 30 with three spooktacular events for goblins of all ages. · BOO at the U, a Tri-state costume contest with a free and safe trick-or-treat giveaway, will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Parking Lot C near the Physical Activities Center. Free costume contest registration will be from 11 a.m. to noon, when judging will begin. Winners will be announced at 1 p.m. Contestants will compete in Child (12 and younger) and Adult categories. Cash prizes will be awarded to the scariest, funniest, and most creative child and adult; the best couple, children and adults; and the cutest, child only. All children wearing costumes will receive free trick-or-treat candy. Gift certificates also will be given away. USI Habitat for Humanity is sponsoring the event. · The Creepy Cruise-In Car, Truck, and Cycle Show will rumble into Parking Lot C with registration from 10 a.m. to noon. Judging will be held from noon to 2 p.m., when more than 40 awards will be presented. A live concert featuring Little Moe and The Atomic Two Tones will be on stage from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Evansville Bluecat Cheerleaders will sign autographs, give away posters, and perform at 1:30 p.m. The first 100 registrants will receive dash plaques. Awards will be presented in the following categories: Top 15 Cars, Top 15 Trucks, Top 10 Motorcycles, Best of Show Motorcycle, Best of Show Truck, Best of Show Car, and Ladies’ Choice. Cash prizes will be given to the top three Best Halloween-decorated vehicles. Registration is $15 or $10 for high school and college students. The show is being sponsored by The Nick Nackery Place. · The PumpkinHead Classic, a three-on-three basketball tourney, will begin at 10 a.m. in the Recreation and Fitness Center. Check-in will be from 9 to 10 a.m. The event guarantees a minimum of two games (double elimination). Cash prizes will be awarded, and each team will receive free tournament athletic towels. A live DJ will provide entertainment, and refreshments will be available. Sign-ups will be accepted through Friday, October 15: 812/465-1136. The fee is $30 per four-person team. Registration is limited to the first 64 teams. The PumpkinHead Classic is being sponsored by the USI SpringFest Committee. The public is welcome. |
