Liberal Arts Colloquim to feature Dr. Susanna Hoeness-Krupsaw
|
Dr. Susanna Hoeness-Krupsaw, associate professor of English at University of Southern Indiana, will present "Doctorow’s Families," a lecture in USI’s Liberal Arts Colloquium, at 3:30 p.m. Friday, October 29, 2004 in Kleymeyer Hall in the Liberal Arts Center. Although the author is identified as an historical novelist and postmodernist, Hoeness-Krupsaw is particularly interested in the way E.L. Doctorow’s novels reveal his dedication to the human family. The award-winning Doctorow published numerous books, including Ragtime, Loon Lake, World’s Fair, and Billy Bathgate. “By centering his writing on the construction of nontraditional families, Doctorow draws attention to the potential failure of unrestrained individualism and attests to the lasting significance of building communities,” Hoeness-Krupsaw said. The associate professor joined the University in 1989. She holds a Ph.D. in English from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, where her doctoral studies focused on modern American fiction with a minor emphasis in modern British and French fiction. Her colloquium presentation reflects the topic of her dissertation. Hoeness-Krupsaw’s research interests include contemporary American and Canadian writers, and women’s literature. She has published on Jack Kerouac, Simone de Beauvoir, Colette, Elaine Showalter, and Anne Devlin. The colloquium is a free lecture series featuring faculty research in the USI School of Liberal Arts. It is open to the public. |
