Jabali Afrika coming for International Education Week
|
A multi-faceted band from East Africa’s Kenya will be at USI at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 17, 2004 in Carter Hall of the University Center as part of the celebration of International Education Week and as guests of the THREADS program which brings attention each month to a different aspect of diversity. International Education Week 2004 is November 15 through November 19 and is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education. Jabali Afrika performs original compositions and traditional African melodies. They perform more than 250 shows per year on tour in Europe, Japan, and the United States. Jabali Afrika has released three CDs—“Journey,” “Remember the Past,” and “Rootsganza”—in the United States. Their sound comes alive on a wide variety of instruments accompanied by vocal harmonies. The performers in stunning African tribal costumes offer a special fusion of African rhythms. Band members are adept at composing songs, playing a variety of instruments, and blending their voices into a harmonious sound. They also are talented dancers and choreographers. THREADS stands for Teaching Human Respect and Encouraging Action Diversity Series. The USI program is free and open to the public. |
