USI’s Gross earns academic honor

Volleyball senior middle blocker Leeanne Gross (Decatur, Indiana) has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District V third team in a vote by the District V College Sports Information Directors of America. Gross, an elementary education major from Adams Central High School, is second on the team with 3.25 kills per game and a .315 attacking percentage. She is one of only two players in school history to record 1,400 career kills and 1,000 career digs and will finish her career at USI ranked second in career attacking percentage. To be eligible for Academic All-District and All-America, the nominee must be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials and at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale. The student athlete must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing and completed at least one full academic year at the institution. District V includes NCAA II, NCAA III, and NAIA institutions from Indiana, Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Manitoba and Ontario. This marks the first time Gross has earned Academic All-District honors. She is a three-time Academic All-GLVC performer as well as a two-time All-GLVC performer. Gross and the rest of the Screaming Eagles will be in action Friday, November 12, 2004 at 7:30 p.m. when they play in the semifinals of the GLVC Tournament at the Physical Activities Center. They will play the winner of the University of Indianapolis-Lewis University match, which is scheduled for tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the PAC. |
