Former University of Southern Indiana All-American Elly Rono ‘99 will be inducted into NCAA Division II Cross Country Coaches Association Hall of Fame on Friday, November 19, 2004 at the Hall of Fame Pasta Banquet. The banquet is being held in conjunction with NCAA Division II Cross Country National Championships hosted by USI.

Rono gave USI two exciting years from 1996 to 1998 in cross country and track. A six-time All-American, Rono was the 1997 NCAA Division II Cross Country national champion after finishing as the runner-up in 1996 and was the National Athlete of the Year in both seasons.

In track and field, Rono earned national championships in the indoor 5,000 meters and the outdoor 10,000 meters in 1998.

Over the last two years, Rono has posted two top 10 finishes in the Boston Marathon (9th in 2003 and 10th in 2004) and was fourth overall in the 2003 New York Marathon.

Rono is a resident of Durham, North Carolina, where he trains full-time and substitute teaches in the school system.
