The latest proven bass-catching knowledge will be available to fishermen of all skill levels at Bassmaster University offered from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 19, 2005 and Sunday, February 20, 2005 at the University of Southern Indiana in Evansville, Indiana. Bassmaster University gives participants the unusual opportunity to get into a classroom environment with North America’s top pro anglers.

The two-day course will feature six of America’s top bass pros as instructors, including the 2000 Bassmaster Classic Champion Woo Daves. Other instructors are Shaw Grigsby, 2003 Great Outdoor Games gold medalist; Ken Cook, Bassmaster Classic champion; Zell Rowland, 12-time Bassmaster Classic finalist; Greg Hawk, Bassmaster Classic finalist; and Rich Tauber, U.S. Open champion and nationally known finesse expert. These anglers have vast fish-catching experience earned through years of trial and error on the water. Bassmaster University will help shorten the “learning curve” by passing the fish-catching knowledge of the pros along to the participants.

This accelerated course in bass fishing strategy features 12 different one-hour workshops over the two days. Each instructor teaches his specialty. Bassmaster University covers mainstream bass fishing techniques such as fishing with plastic worms, crankbaits, topwater, flipping and pitching, and spinnerbaits. It also covers lesser-known techniques such as fishing the floating worm and finesse fishing. Using electronics and advanced techniques for catching bass from mid-lake structure and suspended bass also will be covered.

Bassmaster University is taught all over the United States by professional anglers. Courses in the 2005 season will be offered at 28 sites in 24 cities. Evansville is one of only two sites in Indiana to offer the Bassmaster University in the 2005 season; the other site is in Indianapolis. The course is not offered in Kentucky this season. It will be offered in Nashville in Tennessee, and near Chicago in Illinois, so for Tri-State residents, the Evansville site offers a convenient location.

Saturday’s activities begin at 7 a.m. with on-site registration. Classroom instruction begins at 8 a.m. After an orientation session, participants will attend six different workshop sessions with Saturday instructors Ken Cook, Show Grigsby, and Rich Tauber. Activities recess at 3 p.m., but participants are invited to attend an informal “think tank” session with individual instructors until 3:30 p.m.

Sunday’s activities begin at 7 a.m. as instructions Woo Daves, Zell Rowland, and Greg Hawk conduct an additional six sessions followed by Sunday’s “think tank.”

Enrollment fee for the event is $109 per adult or $55 for spouses and children under 16 when attending with a full-paying adult. Call USI Extended Services, 812/464-1989, to register.
