WSWI to broadcast local music hour
|
WSWI, the University of Southern Indiana’s alternative music radio station, will launch Vanderburgh County’s first Local Music Show at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, February 23. “The show will feature, exclusively, local artists,” said John Morris, the station’s general manager and USI’s radio and television instructor. “We’ve been trying to find a way to set ourselves apart from other stations around here, and one thing none of them features is local music.” Already, Station Manager Chad Connor, a USI junior, has chosen 15 bands to be featured in the first hour-long program. And fliers and on-air promotions have brought calls from several other bands interested in being featured, as well as from students anxious to hear the first show. So Connor and freshman Brad Bruner, who will co-host the show, already are looking at the possibility of expanding the weekly show’s scope. “We’re looking to expand once it is successful,” Morris said. “As we get going, we’re looking to get local bands to come in for some interviews, and possibly some in-studio performances.” The show will run every Wednesday at 3 p.m., on 820 AM, WSWI. Bands looking to submit material for consideration can reach Connor at 465-1665. |
