USI celebrates 20-year partnership with New Harmony

The University is hosting a community celebration of 20 years of partnership between USI and New Harmony, Indiana, from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 18, at the Rapp-Owen Granary on Granary Street in New Harmony. President Emeritus David L. Rice will discuss the University’s collaboration with the historic town, and there also will be light refreshments and live music. Poster presentations will highlight faculty research and artistic projects inspired by and created in New Harmony. In addition to the perennial programs of Historic New Harmony, New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art, New Harmony Theatre, and Ropewalk Writer’s Retreat, less familiar projects will be featured. Eva Jermakowicz, professor of accounting in the School of Business will display research conducted on the economic impact of the Wabash River Bridge; faculty from the department of geology, Paul Doss, Jim Durbin, and Norman King, will showcase their teaching and research in New Harmony; Cindy Goodwin, instructor in nursing, will illustrate the “Healing Touch” seminars that take place in New Harmony; the School of Liberal Arts will feature Dr. Donald Pitzer, professor of history and director of the Center for Communal Studies; and the poet/artist team of Matthew Graham, associate professor in English and Kathryn Waters, professor in art, will present their poetry and drawings from New Harmony.
