35th annual Juried Student Art Exhibition awards

The 35th Annual Juried Student Exhibition awards were announced at an opening reception on Sunday, April 10, in the University Conference Center, where the exhibition was on display through Sunday, April 17. Over 300 student pieces were submitted to the exhibition, and about 120 were included after the juror, Mark Lymon, made his selections. Lymon is president and founder of Expressions of Culture, Inc., and producer of the International Expositions of Sculpture Objects and Functional Art (SOFA) Chicago, New York, and Palm Beach, Florida. He holds a Master of Fine Arts in ceramics from Indiana State University and has received two grants from the National Endowment for the Arts. He also has taught studio ceramic art and design at the Sheridan School of Craft and Design in Toronto and at Washington University's School of Fine Art in St. Louis. In his juror’s statement, Lymon said, “USI students’ interests run the gamut from classical figure study, to abstract sculpture; from romantic painting to caustic art brut pencil drawing….In the end, after selections were made and awards pinned, the final grouping of works stood strong.
