|
Students in the University of Southern Indiana’s radio/television program won several awards in the 2005 Indiana Association of School Broadcasters College Competition. Senior radio/television major Chad Connor won third place in the TV Anchor competition for the television show “Access USI,” which also won second place for TV News Magazine. USI also won third place for TV School Newscast. In the Radio Division, Melanie Branum, a senior radio/television major, won third place for News Report/Package, and WSWI was awarded second place for Station Imaging. Cynthia Joyce Jones, a junior public relations and advertising major, won second place for Copy Writing. Brad Perry, a junior radio/television major, won third place in the same competition. USI students competed against students from 14 Indiana colleges and universities and a record number of entries. The competition is judged by broadcast and advertising professionals. The radio and television program at USI provides a combination of theory and practical hands-on experience to prepare students for a field which employs full-time more than a quarter of a million people in the United States alone. WSWI, USI's on-campus radio station, serves Vanderburgh County and surrounding counties with a modern rock/alternative format on 820 khz, and on the Internet 52 weeks a year. USI's on-campus television lab provides students the opportunity to be involved in the writing, production, shooting, and editing of several regularly scheduled programs seen on Evansville's television stations. Radio and television students also are involved in Department of Communications efforts in distance education seen across the state of Indiana. |
