Graduate is 500 Festival Queen’s court member
Recent USI graduate and 500 Festival Princess April Dawn Williams was chosen as a member of the 2005 500 Festival Queen’s court at the Indianapolis Life 500 Festival Mayors Breakfast held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on May 21. The daughter of Mike and Dee Williams of Lyons, Williams graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting and professional services on May 8. As one of the top three women chosen from 33 500 Festival Princesses, Williams, along with Melissa Trombley, a junior at DePauw University, is a member of the 500 Festival Queen’s court. Deven Wayman, a junior at the University of Evansville, was crowned 500 Festival Queen. A graduate of White River Valley High School, Williams attended USI on the David S. Deering Endowed Presidential Scholarship and was on the dean’s list every semester. She was president of Beta Alpha Psi honorary, a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma honorary, a member of the Honors Program, and a member of the Dean’s Student Advisory Council for the School of Business. She also was on the women’s basketball team from 2001 to 2004 and the Academic All-Great Lakes Valley Conference Team in 2002 and 2003. The 500 Festival Queen and Princesses attend 500 Festival events and volunteer programs throughout the month of May, in addition to involvement with statewide outreach programs of their choosing. In addition, they are present at various Indianapolis Motor Speedway functions and participate in the Indianapolis 500 Victory Circle celebration. The 2005 500 Festival Princesses were chosen from among 193 applicants and selected based on communication skills, poise, academic performance, and community and volunteer involvement. This year, the princesses are from 11 Indiana colleges and universities and 24 Hoosier cities and towns. |
