A Patriotic Summer at Lincoln Amphitheatre in 2005
|
The Lincoln Amphitheatre 2005 summer season's annual production of the musical Young Abe Lincoln is now on stage. This may be the last summer to see the historical drama. Due to state budget cuts, the University of Southern Indiana announced last month that it can no longer continue to serve as the play’s producer. According to Elliot Wasserman, artistic director of Lincoln Amphitheatre, Young Abe Lincoln combines country and folk music and Broadway-caliber dancing with stirring patriotism. It celebrates the 16th president’s boyhood years in southern Indiana. “It’s an important story to tell because Lincoln is one of our country’s most important presidents, and his formative years in southern Indiana had an enormous impact on the man he became,” Wasserman said. Amy Estes, marketing coordinator for Lincoln Amphitheatre, noted that advance sales for the drama are stronger than in past seasons. “We’d really like to go out on a high note,” she said. “I have heard many people say they’ve always meant to go see Young Abe. I hope they’ll make sure to take advantage of this last summer,” she said. Special Performances According to Estes, Lincoln Amphitheatre will offer several special performances this summer. Sign language interpretation will be provided at the Saturday, June 25 performance of Young Abe Lincoln. Kids Day on Wednesday, July 27 features educational activities, lunch, and an abbreviated performance of Young Abe Lincoln. Several discount nights are planned for special groups.
