Rodgers and Hammerstein's acclaimed musical masterpiece South Pacific will be at Lincoln Amphitheatre through August 6. The show runs in repertory with the historical musical drama Young Abe Lincoln at the stunning outdoor theater in Lincoln State Park.

This may be the last summer to see the summer productions. Due to state budget cuts, the University of Southern Indiana announced last month that it can no longer continue to serve as Lincoln Amphitheatre’s producer.

Tender romance, an unforgettable score, and enchanted South Sea splendor are set against the backdrop of a world at war in this Pulitzer Prize-winning classic.

On the beautiful South Pacific island of Bali Hai, Nellie Forbush (Jennifer Davis-Johnson), a U.S. Navy nurse, falls for a mysterious French planter (Brian Bowman) whose lifestyle could not be more different from the conservatism of her own Arkansas background.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant Joe Cable (Antonio Campagna) arrives to carry out a top-secret mission spying on the Japanese fleet from behind enemy lines, and finds love with the beautiful young daughter of Bloody Mary (Tauren Hagans), a Polynesian trader.

The score is as breathtaking as the tropical setting, and includes favorites like “Some Enchanted Evening,” “I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Out Of My Hair,” “Younger Than Springtime,” Bali Hai,” “Honey Bun,” and “There Is Nothing Like A Dame.”

Special Performances
According to Amy Estes, marketing coordinator for Lincoln Amphitheatre, Lincoln Amphitheatre will offer special performances this summer. Kids Day on Wednesday, July 27 features educational activities, lunch, and an abbreviated performance of Young Abe Lincoln.

On many Friday nights throughout the season, Lincoln Amphitheatre features popular music concerts that the gamut from classical to country and from western swing to big band. A complete season schedule is available online at www.usi.edu/lincoln/.

More About Lincoln Amphitheatre
Sometimes called “America’s Most Beautiful Outdoor Stage,” the 1,500-seat Lincoln Amphitheatre sits on the land where Lincoln’s family homesteaded. Though the sides and back of the auditorium open onto beautiful woods of Lincoln State Park, the audience and the stage are fully covered from the elements by a permanent roof – so there is never a rainout.

Lincoln Amphitheatre offers many amenities, including free parking, shuttle service, and pre-show entertainment, accessible restrooms, a “cry room” for families needing a little privacy, food and beverages at the full-service concessions stand, and a gift shop. The facility is wheelchair accessible and offers assisted listening devices and large print programs at no charge. Lincoln Amphitheatre welcomes motor homes and tour buses. It offers discounted group rates and can provide meal service and help developing itineraries for groups.

Ticket Sales
Lincoln Amphitheatre tickets are on sale now for all 2005 performances. Single tickets for South Pacific and Young Abe Lincoln are $17 for adults, $15 for college students with a valid ID and for seniors 60 or older, and $8 for children under 18. Sunday nights are Family Nights, when all tickets are $8. Tickets for Kids Day are $12.

For the discounted price of $25, patrons can see both South Pacific and Young Abe Lincoln. Season passes offer unlimited admission to both shows on any date throughout the season, and are available for $40 per person.
