Smoking policy expanded
|
An expanded smoking policy is in effect at the University in an effort to promote and maintain a clean and healthy environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Smoking and the use of smokeless tobacco products are prohibited in University buildings and University-owned and University-leased licensed vehicles. The policy includes smokeless tobacco products that come in two forms — moist snuff and chew. Snuff also is called “dip” or “rub.” Smoking is permitted beyond a minimum of a 30-foot perimeter around University facilities. The new policy takes into consideration the smoke that enters buildings through outdoor air-intakes. Signs are being added on entrance doorways that state the expanded policy implementation. The smoking policy was reviewed by a University-wide committee that gathered input from the campus community. For those interested in learning more about ways to stop smoking, smoking cessation classes in October and November will be sponsored by Recreation, Fitness, and Wellness. The one-hour October classes will start at 5 p.m. October 4, 11, 18, and 25 in University Center, Rm. 215. The November classes will be held at noon on November 1, 8, 15, and 22. A location will be announced at a later time. The classes are free to USI students and employees. |
