USI to host Worldwide Luminary Series Conference
|
USI will host the Worldwide Luminary Series Conference “Leading to Greatness: Building True Success Wherever You Live and Work,” to be broadcast live via satellite from Washington D.C. from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 2. The local program will be presented to a closed-circuit audience at the Evansville Airport Marriott. Speakers will include Jack Welch, Rudy Giuliani, Sir Richard Branson, Carley Fiorina, Stephen Covey, Malcolm Gladwell, Marcus Buckingham, and a Fortune 500 panel. As Chairman and CEO of General Electric for over 20 years, Jack Welch increased the company’s market capitalization by $400 billion dollars, making it the world’s most valuable corporation. Upon his retirement in 2001, Welch wrote his best-selling autobiography, Jack: Straight from the Gut. His latest best-seller, Winning, was called “the only book a manager ever needs to read,” by Warren Buffet. Rudy Giuliani’s leadership during New York City’s darkest hours of the September 11th terrorist attacks earned him global praise and admiration. His tireless managing efforts to restore the city and the morale of its residents during the aftermath inspired Time magazine to name him its Person of the Year in 2001. As one of the world’s most famous entrepreneurs, Sir Richard Branson is best known for his widely successful Virgin brand, which he began with a small mail order record company in Britain. Through the years, this unconventional leader has expanded his brand – The Virgin Group - to include over 200 companies in 30 countries. In 1999, he became Sir Richard Branson when knighted for his “Service to Entrepreneurship.” Throughout an extraordinary career in business, including a 20-year stint at AT&T, Carley Fiorina successfully defied the odds to become Chairman and CEO of global technology solutions provider Hewlett-Packard, where she led the reinvention of the company, returning it to its roots of innovation and inventiveness. While at HP, Fiorina successfully led the company’s controversial merger with Compaq Computer Corp., now recognized as the most successful high-tech merger in history. Stephen R. Covey is the world’s best-selling author on personal and professional development and has counseled many of the world’s most prominent business leaders including CEO’s from almost all of the Fortune 500 companies, presidents of the United States, and world leaders. His book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, has sold more than 17 million copies and continues to sell 100,000 copies per month, 15 years after its release. His newest book The 8th Habit-- released at last year’s Luminary conference - has quickly become a bestseller. Named one of Time magazine’s most influential business people for 2005, Malcolm Gladwell is author of the best-selling book The Tipping Point. Gladwell has embedded the concept of the “tipping point” in our everyday vocabulary. He describes how business trends work and helps companies apply this knowledge to their own business strategies. His latest book, Blink – the Power of Thinking without Thinking, now tops the New York Times bestseller list. During his 17 years with The Gallup Organization, Marcus Buckingham helped lead research on the world’s best leaders, managers, and workplaces. That research led to a unique understanding of how to engage today’s workforce and was the basis for two best-selling books: First, Break All the Rules: What the World's Best Managers Do Differently and Now, Discover Your Strengths. His new book, The One Thing You Need to Know, released this year, offers solid insights into innovative thinking and leadership. Buckingham, considered one of the world's leading authorities on employee productivity, was appointed as a member of the U.S. Secretary of State's Advisory Committee on Leadership and Management. In addition to these powerful presenters, there will be an exclusive CEO panel presented by Fortune magazine, in which today’s most successful executives and leaders from Fortune 500 companies speak candidly about the lessons they have learned. Produced by LumaCore, LLC, a communications, leadership training and corporate programming company, and Fortune magazine, “Leading to Greatness: Building True Success Wherever You Live and Work” will have an audience of more than 75,000 conference participants. It will be broadcast to more than 30 countries and 90 locations throughout the United States and hosted by America’s leading colleges and universities. A limited number of tickets have been reserved for USI representatives. Larry Bohleber, manager of the USI Center for Human Resources Development, said those tickets will be given to University leaders “who are responsible for their area and for inspiring people to work toward the accomplishment of their vision.” If you would like to register, call 800/289-0051. |
