APB’s Masquerade Ball scheduled for November
|
Expect to see jesters, the phantom from Phantom of the Opera, lacey eye masks, and other creative masks at the Activities Programming Board’s 2005 Black and White Masquerade Ball on Saturday, November 12 at USI. The fall formal is open to all USI students. The Black and White Masquerade Ball is the first large fall event for APB. “We hope a masquerade will broaden interest in the event,” Janelle Persohn said. Persohn is this year’s APB president. Freshamn Nicole Adkison, a business major from Monroe, Indiana, is the vice president for Special Events and is organizing the fall formal along with Persohn. Adkison was visiting USI during a Southern Hospitality Day event last year and met with friends who attended USI. She joined them for an APB event. Her interest in the organization continued when she enrolled this fall, and she attended meetings and was elected to the vice president position. Persohn is a senior majoring in studio art. She and twin sister Jennifer enrolled at USI three years ago. During the first year Janelle didn’t get involved with any student group, and Jennifer joined APB. The following year they became co-vice presidents, and this year Janelle is president and Jennifer is serving on a committee. The women are from Jasper, Indiana. “We want students to come to the dance and have fun,” said Adkison. “It will be a night students can forget about the stress of classes, dress up, and have a great time.” Dress up means women will wear dresses and guys can wear khakis and a shirt. “We won’t be wearing jeans and t-shirts,” both women explained. The cost is $7 a couple and $5 per person. Students are encouraged to wear black and white and come with masks. Tickets will be on sale November 8 through 11 and also at the door. A disc jockey will provide the music. The Activities Programming Board plans events for each semester. APB sponsors Friday Night Live with entertainment, movies, lectures, a Chill Out before final exams, and Homecoming. Students who want to get involved with the organization can visit the office in the lower level of the University Center or call 464-1872. |
