A conversation with a U.S. Marshal
|
U.S. Marshal Pete Swain will meet with USI students from the Political Science Society at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, November 18, 2005 in Forum I of the Wright Administrations Building. The session is open to all students and USI employees. Swain is the U.S. Marshal for the Southern District of Indiana. He served 29 years with the Vanderburgh County Sheriff Department. As a U. S. Marshal, Swain is a member of the nation’s oldest and most versatile federal law enforcement agency. Since 1789, federal marshals have served the nation through a variety of vital law enforcement activities. The Marshals Service occupies a central position in the federal justice system. It is involved in every federal law enforcement initiative. The U.S. Marshals Service offices are based on the organizational structure of the Federal District Court system. Indiana is divided into two judicial districts that are referred to as the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana. Swain will talk about his career in law enforcement, the U.S. Marshals service, and the U.S. Marshals support in response to Hurricane Katrina and Rita. Questions about the event can be referred to Dr. Greg Culver, lecturer in Liberal Arts, gkculver@usi.edu. |
