USI students to stage USI Madrigal Feaste

Close to 40 students at University of Southern Indiana will be performing at the 36th annual Madrigal Feastes held on December 1, 2, 3, and 4 at USI. USI’s Carter Hall in the University Center will be transformed into a lushly decorated medieval castle set in Renaissance Ireland. The Madrigal Feaste entertains guests through stirring music, festive processionals, hearty comic scenes, and delicious food all in the spirit of the holidays. Tickets are now on sale for the shows which will be at 7:30 p.m. December 1 – December 3 and at 6 p.m. on December 4. The USI Chamber Choir will perform selections of old English Madrigals, Irish traditional folk songs and carols, as well as eloquent choral selections from a wide variety of European repertory. Celtic band Rowan Tree will accompany the formal processional, and the Society for Creative Anachronism will demonstrate sword fights and medieval dancing. The program is directed by Daniel Craig, USI assistant professor of music. The menu includes a tossed green salad, hot wassail (spiced cider), soup of beef and barley, roasted chicken, holiday roasted potatoes, fresh steamed vegetables, bread pudding with rum sauce, tea and coffee.
