The 25th Anniversary of the NCAA Division II Women's Championship will be celebrated throughout the 2005-06 championship season. The NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Championship began in 1981 and will be celebrating its 25th Anniversary at the 2006 championship. To commemorate this milestone, a 25th Anniversary Team consisting of five student-athletes and one coach will be named. Freeland is USI’s all-time leading scorer with 2,269 points and leading rebounder with 961 rebounds. In 1996-97, Freeland averaged 21.1 points per game to lead USI to a 30-2 record and the NCAA II National Championship game. A member of the GLVC Hall of Fame and a two-time Academic All-American, Freeland ranks 14th all-time in NCAA II history in career scoring and 15th all-time in field goal percentage (.612). Freeland also served as an assistant coach for the Screaming Eagles from the 1999-2000 season to 2002-03. She helped lead USI to back-to-back GLVC championships as well as the 2001 NCAA II Elite Eight. She is currently an assistant coach at Florida Gulf Coast University, where she has helped lead the FGCU Eagles to a 9-0 mark in 2005-06. Voting will conclude on January 15, 2006. |
