2006 Senior Art Seminar Exhibitions include digital and fine art
|
This year, senior art majors will have the opportunity to exhibit their work in both of the Student Art Seminar Exhibitions at the New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art in New Harmony, Indiana. “Our art majors are very versatile, and they work in both new media and more traditional media,” said Kathryn Waters, chair of the Art, Music, and Theatre Department. “Everyone had the opportunity to enter both shows.” Exhibition I, which runs January 7- 21, will feature senior art majors’s digital artwork, while Exhibition II, January 24-February 4, will feature studio artwork. An opening reception for Exhibition I will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. January 14. Exhibition II will end with a closing reception from 4 to 6 p.m. February 4. There were three Senior Art Seminar sections this year, taught by Waters, Erich Shelton, and Joan Kempf. Exhibition I will include the work of Danielle Bumm, James Coomes, Jennifer Crowell, Mitchell Ellis, Andy Gabert, Heather Gill, Jayme Haskins, Derick Hooley, Kim Hoppenjans, Jacob Martin, Richard Martin, Zachary Moore, Nyle Musgrave, Allison Robards, David Ruckman, Noah Wetzel, Julianna Lee, Jason Reese, Juliana Abney, Kelly Alig, Samantha Chandler, Corey Clark, Ben Cruce, John Dillingham, David Frey, Brian Hastings, Sarah Howe, Anelize Johnson, Kevin Kerney, Jon Koch, Breezy Nash, Jessica Schwerdtfeger, and Nikki Smithhart. Students in Exhibition II are Heather Gill, Jayme Haskins, Kim Hoppenjans, Jerome Duerson, Jeslyn Horstketter, Julianna Lee, Derek McGraw, Kelly Platz, Jennifer Porter, Sarah Rappee, Jason Reese, Sara Rhoades, Myrle Schnarr, Kendle Teiken, Jason Thomas, Kara Voyles, Kelly Alig, Samantha Chandler, Corey Clark, Breezy Nash, Ben Cruce, John Dillingham, David Frey, Sarah Howe, Anelize Johnson, Jon Koch, and Nikki Smithhart. “Our students are all art majors, no matter what their emphasis, and they have wide-ranging skills. We want them to be able to feature all the skills they’ve acquired here,” Waters said. “The exhibitions will show what talented and creative students we have.” The Senior Art Seminar Exhibitions are in many ways a professional experience for USI senior art students. They gain firsthand knowledge of contracts, consignment of artwork, pricing of work, and correct professional presentation. They must meet deadlines, prepare an artist statement and résumé for display, and experience public reaction to their work. Waters encouraged the University community and the general public to attend. “Good bargains will be available on art from emerging artists who will go on to do very well,” she said. The New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art is located at 506 Main Street in New Harmony and is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
