Gala to raise funds for Working Men's Institute
|
Indiana’s oldest continuously operating public library, the Working Men’s Institute, is hosting a Gala event on February 4. The Gala will raise funds for an addition that would make the entrance to the Institute’s historic West Tavern Street home in New Harmony, Indiana, universally accessible. The black-tie optional event will include a gourmet dessert and coffee buffet prepared by the Red Geranium, silent and live auctions, live music by the Stephen Greenwell Trio, and dancing. A cash bar also will be available. The Gala will honor the painter Jacob Maentel (1778-1863), who lived in the historic David Lenz House in New Harmony. Tickets are $50 per person. Those who purchase two tickets for $150 will receive a landscape print by Maentel. Purchasers of four tickets for $250 will receive two distinct Maentel prints. The canvas quality prints were made from two of Maentel's rare oil paintings. The Working Men’s Institute houses four of Maentel’s original paintings in its collection: two family portraits and two unique landscapes. Maentel landscape prints will be auctioned as the highlight of the evening. A wide variety of items will be available, including some rare items from the Institute’s archive. The Gala will be held from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday, February 4, at the Rapp-Owen Granary in New Harmony. For reservations or more information, call Gayle Williams at 812/682-5805, Vicki Campbell at 812/682-3649, or Pat Wilson at 812/682-4017. |
