USI graduates receive medical school scholarships

Four USI graduates were among 23 medical students who received scholarships at the Evansville Center for Medical Education, Indiana University School of Medicine Annual Scholarship Awards Luncheon on February 14. USI graduates were Dawn M. Dycus ‘04, Kathryn T. Wannemuehler ‘05, Derrick Hassenour ‘02, and Andrew D. Pierce ’98. Dycus and Wannemuehler are Baccalaureate/Doctor of Medicine scholars, a program sponsored jointly by USI and the Evansville regional campus of IUSM, located on the USI campus. Dycus, of Evansville, received the Aline Mary Aust Condict and Charles H. Aust Sr., M.D. Scholarship; Wannemuehler, of Evansville, received the Dr. Justice F. Wynn Scholarship; Hassenour, of Fort Branch, Indiana, received the Oncology Hematology Associates of Southwest Indiana Medical Student Scholarship; and Pierce, of Evansville, received the Mead Johnson Nutritionals Medical Student Scholarship. IUSM-Evansville marks its 35th anniversary in 2006. This year’s scholarships of nearly $120,000 represent more merit and financial aid dollars, donors and student recipients than ever previously awarded or honored since the local campus was established in 1971. |
