GLVC Plans to Raise Money for Hurricane Katrina Victims
|
The NCAA Division II Great Lakes Valley Conference plans to raise money at its 2006 basketball tournament for three GLVC student-athletes whose families were affected by Hurricane Katrina. New Orleans is the hometown of Marty Wise, a men’s basketball student-athlete at USI, Andrea Harper, a track and field student-athlete at the University of Indianapolis, and Sullivan Sykes, a men’s basketball student-athlete at Saint Joseph’s College. The league office is coordinating this fund raising effort. Volunteers will solicit donations from fans during the course of the tournament as part of a GLVC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee initiative. The first 750 fans to donate will receive a mini basketball souvenir, compliments of Subway of Evansville. At the end of the tournament, the total dollar amount raised will be divided among the three families and gift cards will be purchased and provided to them for their ongoing rebuilding/relocating needs. The 2006 GLVC basketball tournament will be held Thursday, March 2, through Sunday, March 5, at Roberts Stadium. For more information on this fund raising effort, contact GLVC assistant commissioner Katie Willet at 317/237-5636. |
