Greek Week 2006 is April 3-9
The Inter-Greek Programming Council’s Greek Week events kick off Monday, April 3, and culminate Sunday, April 9, with the Greek Olympics and awards presentation. No events will be held Friday and Saturday, April 7-8, during SpringFest 2006.Here’s the schedule of events: Monday, April 3: Can Castle Competition, 3 to 6 p.m., Carter Hall, University Center. The event is a competition between fraternities and sororities in which the most creative castle built from canned food items wins. After the competition, the items will be donated to the Tri-State Food Bank. Tuesday, April 4 Bowling Competition, 9 to 11 p.m., Franklin Lanes. Teams of four can bowl for $2.50 per person. Shoe rental will be free. Wednesday, April 5 Dance Competition, 9 to 11 p.m., Forum I, Wright Administration Building. Each chapter will perform a dance for faculty judges, and the University community is encouraged to attend. “It’s awesome to come and watch everyone compete,” said Heather Opolski, Panhellenic vice president of programming and a member of Delta Zeta. “They get really creative and it’s funny to watch.” Thursday, April 6 Volleyball Competition, 9 to 11 p.m., Recreation and Fitness Center Sand Volleyball Courts. Sunday, April 9 Greek Olympics, noon to 3 p.m., Rugby Practice Field. Events include Mount Olympia human pyramids, pie-eating contest, “chariot” races, and a “Fear Factor” event. Greek Awards, 6 to 8 p.m., Carter Hall, University Center. Awards are presented to individuals and chapters for the highest and most improved GPA, and for event-winners. In addition to these events, the chapters will raise money for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Members will collect cash “votes” for the best banner. The banners will hang from the University Conference Center and money will be collected from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 3-7 in front of the University Center.
