Anti-violence program and Take Back the Night
|
USI's Department of Recreation, Fitness, and Wellness will present a program by Gordon Braxton, a prevention specialist in the Office of Sexual Assault and Response at Harvard University, at 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, in Carter Hall in the University Center at USI. Braxton will discuss his journey toward understanding the importance of anti-violence work and contemporary trends in youth culture from an anti-violence standpoint. More information about Braxton’s program is available at the Campus Outreach Web site. Immediately following Braxton’s program, at approximately 6 p.m., Albion Fellows Bacon Center will hold its “Take Back the Night” program on campus, with a march through student housing and back to the University Center for a candlelight ceremony. A local rape survivor will speak about the impact of rape on her life. After her speech, audience members will be invited to step up and speak about rape. Registration for the march begins at 4:30 p.m. T-shirts will be given to those in attendance. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Stephanie Walden-Schwake, assistant director of Recreation, Fitness, and Wellness, at 812/461-5269. |
