Misty Freeman, Andrea Hargrove to lead Indiana Student Education Association
|
Two USI students planning careers in teaching will lead future teachers throughout the state in 2006-07 as the top officers in the Indiana Student Education Association. Misty Freeman will serve as president of the organization, which is the voice for pre-professionals in Indiana. She was state vice president this year. Freeman is a graduate of Reitz High School in Evansville. She is the granddaughter of Dr. Janet V. Freeman, USI professor emerita of education and former advisor of the USI chapter of the Student Education Association. Janet Freeman was on the faculty from 1970 until her retirement in 1992. “My grandmother has always been supportive of my being involved in campus organizations and has encouraged me to gain leadership skills,” Freeman said. “Hopefully, Ill be able to apply those skills in the future as a teacher.” Freeman plans to teach students with special needs. She will complete requirements for a bachelor’s degree in May and plans to continue her education at USI to become highly qualified. Andrea Hargrove, a senior majoring in elementary education, will be state vice president in 2006-07. She served in 2005-06 as representative at large at the state level. A graduate of Mater Dei High School in Evansville, Hargrove said SEA has helped her get to know other education students and build a professional network. Freeman and Hargrove are co-presidents this year of the 190-member USI chapter of SEA. The Indiana Student Education Association has more than 1,800 members at 22 college campuses throughout the state. State officers were elected in February at a Representative Assembly in Indianapolis. Also, at that meeting, the USI chapter was recognized for having the best newsletter of the year. Krystle Roudebush, a senior elementary education major, is editor. |
