USI men's basketball is nation's top shooting team

The USI men's basketball team is the NCAA Division II's top shooting team in 2005-06. USI shot 52.8 percent from the field, connecting on 1,042 of 1,974 shots last season.

The Screaming Eagles were an astounding 58.8 percent from within the three-point arc (809-1377), while hitting 39.0 percent from three-point range (233-597).

The Eagles also ranked second nationally in rebound margin, third in scoring margin (+16.8 ppg), eighth in assists per game (18.6 apg), 14th in win-loss percentage (27-7, .794), 23rd in scoring offense (83.2 ppg), and 25th in three-point field goal percentage.

USI also ranked in the top five in 16 of 19 GLVC statistical categories and was the top team in scoring margin, field goal percentage, rebound defense, rebound margin, assists, and defensive rebounds.

Individually, USI senior forward Chris Thompson (Starke, Florida) ranked 11th in field goal percentage (61.9 percent), 14th in rebounding (9.8 rpg), and 81st in scoring (18.3 ppg). Senior guard Danny Gibson (Madison, Indiana) finished the year ranked 50th in assists per game (4.9 apg) and 93rd in steals per game (1.9 spg), while junior guard Melvin Hall (Evansville, Indiana) was 100th in three-point field goals per game (2.4 per game).

Thompson was the GLVC's top rebounder, while Gibson led the league in assists and assist/turnover ratio.
