English Honors Society hosts poetry slam to benefit Albion Fellows Bacon Center
|
On Saturday, April 8, USI’s English Honors Society, Sigma Tau Delta, will host a poetry contest in observation of Sexual Assault Awareness Month and National Poetry Month. The event will take place at Central Library’s Browning Room from 4 to 6 p.m. and will include free sandwiches and other refreshments. The event will feature original and exciting poetry by area poets, with the contestants vying for prize packs from local donors and national publication. The topic of the poetry is sexual violence, broadly construed, and a wide range of poetic styles will be represented. Prizes will be given for the best poem, the best performance, and the poem receiving the most audience votes. A panel of “celebrity judges” including City Councilman Steve Bagbey; Maurice Hamington, assistant professor of philosophy; and Brandi Watson, sexual assault program coordinator at Albion Fellows Bacon Center, will judge the performances. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted for Albion Fellows Bacon Center. For more information, go to the Sigma Tau Delta Web site. |
