Seventy-member choir to perform in "Crossing Over: A Spiritual Journey"
|
The USI Chamber Choir and USI Women’s Choir will combine with the Old North United Methodist Church Chancel Choir to perform “Requiem” by John Rutter at 5 p.m. Sunday, April 30, at Old North United Methodist Church, 4201 Stringtown Road. The concert, entitled “Crossing Over: A Spiritual Journey,” will feature the USI Chamber Choir singing eight African American spirituals which deal with the transience of life into death and captivity into freedom. Paired with this set of spiritual songs, the USI Women’s Choir and the Old North UMC Chancel Choir will join the Chamber Choir to perform Rutter’s stirring “Requiem.” The combined chorus of 70 singers will be accompanied by a small chamber ensemble featuring Tom Drury, organist. This concert is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Daniel Craig, assistant professor of music and director of choral activities, at 812/464-1736. |
