In an evening that celebrates the accomplishments of USI student athletes during their last year, seniors Laura Ellerbusch (volleyball), Chris Thompson (men's basketball), and Angie Davis (softball) were recognized as the top student athletes at the fourth annual USI All-Sports Banquet sponsored by Integra Bank April 17.

The Integra/USI Female Student Athlete of the Year, Ellerbusch was a named to the All-Region team by the AVCA and Daktronics. She also was named second team All-GLVC and second-team Academic All-District V.

Ellerbusch led USI with 1.12 blocks per game, a .271 attacking percentage, and was second on the squad with 3.25 kills per game (kpg). An AVCA honorable mention All-American in 2004, Ellerbusch finished her career at USI as the school's all-time leader in career attacking percentage (.325). She also finished third all-time at USI in career block assists (254) and was fifth all-time at USI with 1,149 career kills.

The Elementary Education major became the first player in school history to earn AVCA National Division II Player of the Week honors last fall. She was honorable mention All-American as a junior.

USI finished the season with a 19-13 overall record and an 11-5 mark in the GLVC.

The Integra/USI Male Student Athlete of the Year, Thompson was named first team All-American by Basketball Times and second team All-American by Daktronics and Division II Bulletin. He is just the fifth Screaming Eagle to be named first team in the history of the program; the eighth Eagle to appear on more than one All-America team; and the 14th USI men's basketball player all-time to be named All-American.

Regionally, Thompson was named the Daktronics Great Lakes Region Player of the Year and first team All-Region; co-GLVC Player of the Year and first team All-Conference; and to the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional All-Tournament team. He was named GLVC Player of the Week four times and Division II Bulletin Player of the Month twice.

The Physical Education major led the Screaming Eagles and ranked fourth in the GLVC with 18.3 points per game. He also grabbed a team and GLVC best 9.8 rebounds, tying for 14th in the NCAA II. Thompson recorded a team best 16 double-doubles, two short of the USI single season record, posted a season-high 35 points against Caldwell College, and tied a career-best with 15 rebounds on three different occasions.

The men's basketball team finished 2005-06 with a 27-7 overall record, tied for first in the GLVC West Division, and was the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional Finalist.

The winner of the Integra/USI Screaming Eagle Spirit Award, Davis is an integral member of the softball program this year. Her leadership has lifted the Screaming Eagles to a 27-14 record and into the hunt for a spot in the NCAA II Great Lakes Region Tournament for the first time since 1998. Statistically, Davis is one of the GLVC's leaders in RBIs; but it has been her hustle and dedication to her team that has made the biggest difference.

At the beginning of the season, she was forced to switch from first base to catcher due to injury. She did not back down from the challenge, and is rapidly becoming one of the top catchers in the GLVC.
