Satellite library will serve University community during transition
|
The current David L. Rice Library will be closed June 5 in order to move the collections into the new library building. A satellite library, located in the offices of The Shield in the lower level of the University Center, will serve the needs of the University community until the new David L. Rice Library opens. Patrons will request books, and library staff will search for them and bring them to the satellite location for checkout. Interlibrary loan, reserves, and reference (a small reference collection and assistance from staff) will be available. All online collections and services will continue as usual. The move is expected to be complete by June 13. “If the move proceeds smoothly,” said Ruth Miller, director of the library, “we hope to be able to open the new building June 19. It will open later only if we have to work around significant problems. If it is possible to open earlier, we will do so.” Miller added that information about the interim library will be posted on the library Web site, and on the doors of the old library and The Shield offices. Library staff will email the information to all faculty teaching during Summer I. Since the new library should be open during the first week of Summer II, the impact should be less for those students. The satellite library will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday. It will be closed Saturday and Sunday, June 10 – 11 (between Summer I and Summer II). |
